The sea surrounding Capri, a family passion
When I first started sailing around the island of Capri in my boat, it was to have fun rather than to make a living. And I certainly had fun! In the 1990's, I became famous for my "Gozzo Parties", which drew the crowds from all over Italy. At the time, I was studying economics at the University of Naples but I soon realized that the financial world was not for me and that all I really wanted to do was sail. That's when I decided to transform my favorite hobby into my job and Gianni's Boat was born.
Today I have 5 gozzi sorrentiniboats: with sun deck and awning, mini bar, safety jackets for adults and children and plenty of comfortable cushions (which my mum, Rita, insists on washing - by hand!)
I couldn't do what I do without the help of my family. A family which, instead of blood, has the salty water of the sea running in its viens! We came to the island of Capri on holiday many years ago and, we loved the place so much, we decided to stay here.
My dad owned a Riva Acquarama motorboat in which, from the tender age of 16, he sailed the seas of the Bay of Naples. One of my uncles, member of the Italian Naval League, had the honor of being the skipper for members of the British Royal Family and Jackie Kennedy, when they visited the Bay of Naples. Another uncle was a champion canoeist.
